Hi, I’m Melissa — the maker behind MB Craftworks.
I’m so glad you’re here.
By day, I work as a Taxation Analyst for a large corporation. But outside of that world, you’ll find me in my workshop — designing, engraving, and creating meaningful pieces inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
What started as a creative outlet quickly became something much more.
🌿 How It All Began
My journey into crafting didn’t start with confidence — it started with curiosity (and a little intimidation).
I purchased my first Cricut machine in 2022… and let it sit in the box for months. When I finally opened it, I had no idea what I was doing. After countless YouTube videos and beginner classes, I slowly found my rhythm — and fell in love with creating.
As I learned more, I wanted to push beyond vinyl and paper and work with materials that felt more permanent… more meaningful. That’s when I was introduced to laser engraving.
I was instantly hooked.
Of course, my laser engraver also sat in the box for a while (apparently that’s part of my process), but once I started, I never looked back.
🌲 Why I Create
My love for working with wood goes back much further than my business.
I grew up on a small farm in Central Illinois, surrounded by animals, open land, and hands-on projects. My dad built almost everything we used, and I was right there beside him — learning, helping, and discovering how much I loved making things from scratch.
That foundation shaped everything I do today.
Now, I bring that same hands-on, thoughtful approach into every piece I create — whether it’s a custom engraving, a meaningful gift, or a piece designed to last for years to come.
🤍 Life Behind the Business
Today, I live just outside of Portland, Oregon with my husband, our son, and our two dogs and cat (who definitely keep things interesting).
Becoming a mom later in life gave me a new perspective on time — how quickly it passes, and how important it is to spend it on what matters most.
MB Craftworks was born from that realization.
This business is my path toward more freedom, more creativity, and more time with the people I love — especially my son, who is growing up far too quickly.
